Working Out – Social Distancing and The Coronavirus Pandemic

These are trying times for sure. Here in the U.S, as in lots of countries in this world, we are in the midst of a global coronavirus pandemic unlike we have ever seen before. With unprecedented responses ranging from social distancing and self-quarantines to state or country-wide lockdowns and closures. How are we doing to maintain a semblance of normalcy in our lives? How are we going to keep up with our own routines for self-care and stress management when the local gyms, restaurants, bars, entertainment facilities are all shut down until further notice?

Keep Your At Home Workouts Going

At home workouts & exercise routines are critical right now. We have a free online daily workout, click here

The stress level of the typical household is on the rise for sure. The news bombards us with constant updates of more cases, more deaths and further government responses and measure to control the spread of Covid-19, a.k.a, the coronavirus. Our jobs are on hold or limited to on-line participation; kids are out of school, our daycare is cut-off, and our social outings are limited or non-existing – all things that make us feel more and more stressed. It’s essential that we practice some self love and destress with a little exercise and sweat.

At home workouts would do a world of good to decrease the cortisol levels (stress hormones) and release some feel good hormones (endorphins) to make us feel happier, more at-ease and at-peace. It’s one of the best things that I do for myself to maintain my health and sanity.

All Bodies Fitness is doing their part to help. Take part in our free 7 day online workout sent to your inbox daily. Go to allbodiesfitness.click to sign up for the daily 15 minute home workout to destress and fit in a bit of fitness during these trying times. We will email you a video at 5am each day and then encourage you during the day to complete that workout! It’s easy, free and fun. Plus we will be sending our participates invites to live half-hour workouts, special coaching sessions and other fun surprises.

Good Rest and Good Nutrition

Further important measures to ensure that we stay physically and emotionally sound are to get adequate sleep (7-8 hours for the typical adult) and eat a well-balanced diet high in healthy fruits and vegetables. Keep your immunity up to fight any colds, allergies, flus and even the coronavirus (although we pray we won’t have to fight that one).

Reconnect with family and loved ones

There is no better time to reach out with a call, text or email to friends and family. Everyone is dealing with the forced isolation and stress of these times. We can ease our their stress and ours by keeping in touch and reconnecting. There is a great anti-stress medicine that is free for all and that’s laughter. Why not host an on-line watch party and let us all entertain one another. We can even involve our kids to get them a sense of community too.

i have been going to the local tracks and doing a lot of jogging and walking.  Wide open spaces and not many people there at the moment.  As people hunker down and hoard supplies many are ignoring one of the best defenses to viruses.  Good health!  Really smart message, keep active even at home.  As some city official are suggesting that people stay home, keeping up some type of physical exercise will be important.  Good advice, stay hydrated and get sufficient rest!

Oh this is a very good post. I like it when I see people who are really concerned about the world and right now it is true that there is a big pandemic that is seriously affecting the world. I believe that it is not wrong that we should keep up with our work outs. Being a person that uses the gym, this offer will mean a whole lot to me. I will take and receive the inboxes. Thanks for this and I wish you safety in this times.

Hi Henderson, thank you for your comments! I look forward to seeing you take the challenge!

  • The Coronavirus pandemic is really disrupting all areas of life right around the world.  Social distancing is one way that they say we can help keep the spread down.  However the rules seem to be different in every country in regards to the distance from each other, the size of gatherings etc.

One thing is constant though.  Everyone around the world is being affected in some way.  For some it is affecting their health routines.  As you mentioned gym time is currently curtailed in some countries, but the workaround is to exercise at home.

I wonder though if this will cause de-motivation in some cases because i think people are more motivated to exercise when they go to a gym as opposed to doing exercises at home.

Exercise is the most important now as we have this coronavirus pandemic on our hands. I still believe that if you eat good, sleep good, exercise, and practice good hygiene, the coronavirus cannot get to us. Thank you for sharing your free online workout, social distancing is really something. Together, we can pass this horrible time.

Great post, especially at this cruising moment, where the world is in a chaotic state and fear has gribble everyone to the extend that people cannot even offer help to others when being asked on the road. With this post at least our health can still be kept intact through in door exercises. gym time is currently curtailed in most countries so having this alternative idea is genius to us all. Nice and insightful post. thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you Patricia, this is a brilliant idea at this time when many people are cooked up at home and don’t know what to do with themselves. Due to my lifestyle, I have always done my workouts at home. Sometimes it can get boring doing the same routine over and over. Can’t wait to be part of your workout program!

Thank you for your post. It is useful for me. I usually go to gym daily and as a precaution against coronavirus, I stop going to there since last week. I feel bad and want to do something at home, but never take time to do the research.

Here comes your article. It is nice to see that you provide free online daily workout. I agree with you that at this special time it is important to have home workouts & exercise routines.

After stopping gym, I feel something different and stressed. The stress level of my family is on the rise. The bad news about coronavirus is bombarding us, every second there are some one diagnosed with the virus infection and every minute we heard someone died of the disease.

It’s essential that we do some exercise to relieve our stress. Home workouts are the feasible way to go. I will definitely join your program to help myself.

Hi Anthony, I am so sorry for your stress and all the people affected by the coronavirus. I am glad that you are helped by my efforts. We all must do what we can to help each other. We are all in this together! Stay strong!

  • Hi Patricia,

This is a very contemporary and important issue. Here in Finland we are also in lockdown now; schools are closed, libraries are closed, gyms are closed, borders are closed…

To be honest, the situation is not affecting me and my husband as much as others, because we don’t have kids and we stay at home a lot anyway. As long as the grocery stores and pharmacies are open, we’re fine. But I am concerned for my relatives.

The free online workout is a great idea. I do daily at-home yoga, and it really helps me to relieve stress and anxiety. Going for a walk outdoors is still allowed too, so I take walks just like before. Now that the Spring is coming, cycling outdoors is also possible. I live in the countryside, and there are very few people out anyway, so taking walks is totally safe around here. The healing power of nature is amazing!

Thanks for the great tips and keep safe!

COVID-19 is certainly hitting everyone in the world, the distance running community here in South Africa is mourning the cancelations of major races. We are practically at the early stage of Covid-19 but the numbers are just increasing daily.

Your point on daily nutrition is key as most people are starting to work from home. The biggest challenge would be to maintain discipline on food portions, and to those who don’t have specific eating plans, the problems will be bigger.

Thank you for sharing this, I am working on an article to talk about runner’s eating plan during COVID-19

Thank you so much for your comments. I agree that eating is key and planning. I look forward to reading your article on a runner’s plan.

  • I take walks around my neighborhood every morning since the crisis started. It is good exercise for me. I looking to add an in home workout utilizing an app I have on my phone. The kids are stuck at home to so I played one on one soccer with my eight year old son and that turned into a really good workout. Staying active, doing what you can to take care of yourself and family should be your focus  and it helps with the stress level.

Hi Smoochi, yes social distancing is difficult for us all. Thank you so much for your comment. I am glad that you are working out, it’s important to keep up our strength and get rid of our stress. Stay healthy my friend.

What type of workouts will be in the 7-day challenge? Will they require weights? Will they be bodyweight movements? Yoga and Pilates moves? Is it a mix of all different types of exercise? Are there any precautions that must be taken such as for pregnant women and children? Can children join in the fun? I love a good exercise challenge. Thanks for creating this.

    • Patricia Sullivan

      Hi Melinda,

The 7 day workout challenge is a quick but intense 15 minute workout that targets a different area each day (upper back, chest & shoulders, legs, cardio, etc and can be done with dumbbells but no equipment is required. Children may be able to join in for the cardio and such but adult supervision is suggested.

I fully agree with you that we still need our regular exercise, even though the gyms and recreation parks are closed amidst this pandemic. What a great idea to give subscribers seven days of free online workout routines. We certainly need to be able to reduce our stress levels during these trying times.

I will be signing up to get my daily video to keep up my spirits and fitness level.

  • It is very challenging to maintain our bodies when we are at homes, your article touches this pain point. I am glad I found out the article.

I loved the content and its simplicity, how you address the current pandemic situation and provide the solution for the same, I like the 7-day challenge as well as home work out and exercise routines.

you spoke about rest and nutrition which is very essential when we are home. We often neglect sometimes our sleep pattern which results in unproductive routine.

Connecting with friends and family while lockdown is brings joy and happiness.

Some suggestions: re-arrange brand logo and test some colours with the banners.

  • Hi There,

Now then let me say, what a great idea under the current circumstances. I’ve noticed so many people having meetings and hangouts lately online either partying down to fitness And I think this is totally to take part. I like the part you mentioned the stress relief with at home workouts that would do a world of good to decrease the cortisol levels (stress hormones) based on the current climate with Covid19.
